CHAPTER TWENTY-THREE

“Where have you been?” Amelia scolded when the two women walked into Granny’s room at the Next To The Last Resting Place.

“It’s a long story. I’ll catch you up while I take you home,” Pastor Henrietta answered.

Granny smiled. “Did you have fun being me?”

“I won twenty-five cents at Bingo.” Amelia held out a candy bar. “I traded it for a candy bar.”

“Here’s your wallet and driver’s license back.” Granny handed Amelia her wallet.

Amelia opened the wallet. “You gave me a dollar. What’s that about?”

“For letting me use your wallet, and I won it at the Casino. Pastor Henrietta took us there because she’s going to do her next sermon on the den of inequity.” Granny’s eyes twinkled with mischief.

“You won a dollar and you gave it to me. How nice. Not like you, but thank you.” Amelia motioned Granny into the bathroom. “We need to change. I have to get going as I have a tea at my bed and breakfast.”

“While you two are in there changing, I’ll stand guard. You can tell us if you found out anything.” Pastor Henrietta leaned against the door to the hallway.

“Your lady friends at your table really like Mr. Marcher, and Mrs. Krampett died. They said she had a heart attack,” Amelia told Granny, yelling loud enough so Pastor Henrietta could hear through the door.

“Was she one of the ones who were confused?” Pastor Henrietta hollered back.

Granny and Amelia opened the door of the bathroom, each wearing what the other had been wearing. Amelia answered Henrietta’s question, “No, she was fine, although her death was unexpected. According to what I heard that nurse Polly saying, she was recuperating from surgery and she was expected to go home. It’s amazing how much you can learn when they think you’re sleeping in the hallway. You need to try it sometime, Hermiony. Your table friends put me on to that little trick. I’ll have to come again; I missed the Happy Juice. Apparently, Tank was late sneaking it in.”

“Well I don’t plan on being here long. Anything else?” Granny checked her hat which was on the table to make sure the hatpin was still there. She picked it up and plopped it on her head.

“Oh, your house didn’t have a bomb; it was fake,” Amelia informed her.

“How do you know? Did you pay someone to plant it to scare me?” Granny challenged.

“No, Thor and the Tall Guy were just here. They thought I was you.” Amelia blew on her fingers. “I did that so well they didn’t suspect. They came to tell me about the bomb scare and to tell me to be careful. They even informed me that Silas is in Alaska looking for information and they want you to stay here to keep you safe. They think it’s safer here with this person who wants everyone to rest permanently, than it is at your house where someone wants to get Silas. Apparently, it’s a big secret that he’s out of town, but they
